The Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) Section of Emergency Medicine

Provincially, we act as a liaison between the SMA and the Department of Emergency Medicine, and the work we do helps to highlight issues currently faced by emergency physicians working in the province.

Current board members

Chair: Dr. Brittni Webster (Saskatoon)

Intersectional Council Rep: Dr. Puneet Kapur (Saskatoon)

Secretary/Treasurer: Dr. James Stempien (Saskatoon)

Members at Large: Dr. Mike Kapusta (Swift Current) and Dr. Fracois Roussow (Prince Albert)

Typically the SMA Section of Emergency Medicine meets twice per year, prior to the biannual SMA meetings of the Representative Assembly (RA). Additional meetings are held on an ad hoc basis. At our section meetings, we discuss ideas for resolutions that can be presented at the SMA RAs. If adopted by the majority of voting delegates, these resolutions help to shape the future work of the SMA in advancing and improving the practice of emergency medicine in Saskatchewan.

The SMA RAs happen in the spring and fall. SMA members from all specialty sections of the SMA are welcome to attend. The SMA RAs are conducted in person in either Regina or Saskatoon; however, virtual attendance is also an option for those not wishing to travel.

The next SMA RA will be on May 10 and 11 in Regina at the Delta Hotel.
